Yo! This is a review of the HerInteractive title, Tomb of the Lost Queen!
Same as always, no spoilers :)
Setting
We're in lovely Egypt this time. Exotic, cultural, and.....dry. The tomb was beautiful, and all the rooms in the tomb are incredibly detailed. (It took me 2 days to realize I hadn't even seen everything yet.) However, outside the tomb, you have 2 tents and a desert. Not much to see. But, as this is a very different place than Nancy is used to, it was refreshing.
Final score: 8.5
Characters
Angry, irritable, condescending and arrogant excavation leader.
Quiet, friendly archaeology student with a few secrets to hide.
Historian who believes the tombs were built by....aliens.
And....wait for it.......a British tour guide with thick eyelashes and a flirty attitude.
I LOVE diversity in characters. I don't wanna talk to the same person over and over and over. With all characters having both endearing and frustrating points, they're very real and easy to relate to.
Final Score: 9
Story
History directly affects everything that happens in this story. Your knowledge and intuition can mean your life or death. This queen has been lost for centuries. This tomb is the closest the world has ever gotten to Queen Nefertari. This could be another booby-trapped tomb to throw people off her scent, or it could truly be the burialplace of this beloved and lost queen. Not only are there dangers put in place 1,000 years ago, but the very people at this site with you are capable of harming you greatly.
Final Score: 9.5
Puzzles
AUGHHHHH.
Too many for my taste. And too much running around to find the puzzle's answer. That's mostly what I didn't enjoy.
Final Score: 7
Length & Scary Factor
Length was a teeny bit short for me. What took me the longest is figuring out what triggered the next event. Once I had that, it moved at a pretty quick pace.
This game wasn't scary. There were a couple of "Whoa, can't believe that just happened O_O" moments, but other than that, no major scares.
Final Score: 8.5
Ending
Seemed a tad rushed. The good thing was that I thought the ending was earlier than it turned out to be, but it ended up being a false ending. :) That was pretty clever. Once the real ending arrived, no real skill or speed was needed to "bust the culprit." It was simply another puzzle. I was hoping for at least one heart-pumping moment, but I didn't get one from this game.
Final Score: 9
Not the best from HerInteractive, but certainly not the worst. Very enjoyable game, and lovely music and graphics.
I did however LOVE the new interface. The playing screen is now much bigger, with collapsible task list, notes, and inventory.
Looking forward to the next title!
