I wanted to wait until the 1st season was over before I reviewed this. Just to be sure that I didn't underestimate the greatness of what I was seeing week to week.
I haven't been so hooked on a TV show in a long time. Sitcoms are a bit different. You can watch those a bit out of order and they still make sense, but an actual recurring drama...most don't hold my interest.
Until now.
To be fair to ABC, they so often do have great productions. However, nothing quite like this show has happened in quite some time.
The basic premise of the show is this:
The main protagonist, Emma, has just turned 28 when a knock on her apartment reveals a young boy (Henry) who claims he is her birth son. Knowing she did indeed have a son, but wondering if Henry really is him, she agrees to take him back to his hometown of Storybrooke. Upon arriving, she learns Henry's adoptive mother (Regina) is two different people in front of and behind closed doors. Emma learns that Henry believes the town is cursed - a curse designed to freeze time in Storybrooke, because everyone in it is a fairytale character. And he believes the curse was placed by Regina, his mother. As a viewer, we know it's true, but Emma is still a skeptic, and she is the only one who can break the curse.
Seems complicated, right? You'd be amazed how simply and flawlessly everything flows and combines and becomes a wonderfully written and executed series.
If you watch it, you will get hooked.
I'm very much looking forward to season 2.
