Hey, my darling readers.
I read a new book. A bit different than books I'd read before.
In this book, the main protagonist (Abbey) learns of her best friend's (Kristen) death. People are gossiping that it was suicide, but Abbey knows better than that. Kristen was lively, fun, and loved. As Abbey is struggling with her emotion at Kristen's graveside, a handsome stranger appears in the fog ahead. She learns his name is Caspian, and he has plenty of secrets he hides.
Abbey and Caspian develop a relationship, but she never really learns to trust him. He's somewhat bi-polar and leaves suddenly a majority of the time. But he helps Abbey find peace and closure with a lot of the pain that Kristen's death has caused.
As Abbey is just coming to terms with everything that's happened, she learns a lot of deadly secrets about Kristen AND Caspian.
Good points:
~ Fast-paced. Chapters don't just happen, events are getting accomplished.
~ Mysterious, without turning it into a mystery novel.
~ Relate-able characters.
~ Good intro the trilogy.
~ Never gets anything worse than PG. Which is an accomplishment for 95% of teen novels.
Bad points:
~ Somewhat sloppy in emotional timelines. It's a lot of emotion, but none of it is really well contained. It's a little sporadic and all over the place.
~ I'm not gonna spoil anything, but the ending was a little disappointing. I felt like nothing was really wrapped up. (I understand there's 2 more books, but can I have just a tiny bit of closure, please?)
~ I like having characters that are diverse and enjoy a multitude of things. However, there were so many side plotlines that could have been left out.
This was a decent read, but nothing spectacular. It kept my attention, but didn't quite envelop me in emotion and thought.
I may pick up the second book in the series if I come to a point where I'm in between books, but as of now, I won't get distressed if I don't learn the rest of the story.
So, if anyone reads this and differs in opinion, let me know! :) I love comparing ideas and thoughts.
~ Victoria
